Ontario Job Grant

The Ontario Job Grant (OJG) is a cost-shared investment by employers and the provincial government for employee skills training. Employers can apply for the grant to purchase training for new and existing employees.

 

Financial Summary

Small businesses with fewer than 100 employees are eligible for:

  • 5/6 reimbursement of training costs; up to $10,000 per trainee or;
  • 100% reimbursement of training costs when hiring unemployed new hires; up to $15,000 per trainee

Large businesses with 100+ employees are eligible for:

  • 1/2 reimbursement of training costs; up to $10,000 per trainee

  • Applications must be submitted 2-3 weeks minimum before training start date to provide sufficient time for the approval process
  • Each application must meet all eligibility requirements to determine eligibility and be considered for funding

 

Eligibility Summary

Trainee Eligibility

To be eligible, trainees must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • Be a resident of Ontario
  • Be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Be employed by the employer applying for OJG funding

Training Provider

  • Must be a third-party training provider
  • Must have a physical presence in Ontario
  • Must have been in business for at least 2 years
  • Must fall under one of the following:
    1. College, university, or Indigenous Institute
    2. District School Board
    3. Registered career college or vocational provider
    4. Union-based training centre
    5. Sector council
    6. Industry association
  • Workshops, conferences, and consulting services are ineligible

Employer Must

  • Have a physical business location in Ontario for at least 2 year
  • Be legally licensed to operate in Ontario
  • Have WSIB or alternative workplace insurance coverage
  • Maintain adequate liability insurance
  • Ensure training is delivered in Ontario by an eligible provider
  • Complete training within 52 weeks
  • Provide training only to approved trainees
  • Follow all workplace and human rights legislation
  • Support training that leads to new or improved jobs, wages, or hours

Employer Must Not

  • Be a federal, provincial, or municipal government/agency
  • Be a broader public sector organization
  • Be a district social services administration board
  • Be an Employment Ontario or Integrated Employment Services provider
  • Receive other government funding for the same or similar training program(s)
